His peace of mind is often severely tested by the dopey Spanish waiter, Manuel played by Andrew Sachs. Polly, played by Connie Booth, is the waitress and general miss fix-it who's always able to
help Basil out of the difficult situations he invariably gets himself into.

Fawlty Towers is still one of the most famous and talked about British comedy shows of all time. The ratings remain excellent whenever its shown on TV despite the fact that the last episode was
produced in 1979.
Awarded BAFTAs for "Best Situation Comedy" and "Best Light Entertainment Performance," the show was first in the British Film Institute's 100 Greatest British Television Programmes in 2000. It was
also fifth in the BBC's "Britain's Best Sitcoms" in 2004 and second only to Frasier in The Ultimate Sitcom poll of comedy writers in 2006. Basil Fawlty was also voted "Britain’s Funniest Comedy
Character" in 2006.
