children in a manor house on England's Yorkshire Moors.
Ten year old Mary is an orphan when she first meets her lonely
invalid cousin.
Together they gain contentment as a result of their joy in
cultivating an untended, walled garden behind a locked gate and
meeting a country boy who can talk to the birds.
First published in 1909, this is a classic of children's literature and has
been adapted many times for stage and screen.
The author, Frances Hodgson Burnett, was a great believer in the
healing powers of the mind, and this comes across well in The
Secret Garden.
The way the story portrays the subject's characters as their happiness
grows is extremely uplifting and will warm your heart.
Frances Hodgson Burnett creates characters so strong and distinct,
young readers continue to identify with them 100 years after they
were conceived.
The story is played out with all the liveliness and enthusiasm of the
